Dunfermline & District Credit Union have opened a new branch in the Town House, Cowdenbeath. Open from 10am until 12 noon on Tuesday and Thursday, the branch offers people who live or work in Cowdenbeath a greatly improved level of access to their Credit Union for ethical community savings and loans. What is a loan shark?
A ‘loan shark’ is anyone lending money without a licence. These unlicensed money-lenders are working illegally and often use threats and violence, charge extremely high interest, add other 'charges' to loans for no reason and take away people's bank cards as 'security'. Loan sharks tend to be part of other criminal activities too, like gun and knife crime, counterfeiting and drug-dealing. If you've borrowed money from a loan shark, you haven't broken the law - they have. You can report them in confidence by calling 0300 555 2222. Just one door down from Rejects, there is excellent free parking available just round the corner and plenty of wonderful small shops nearby for you to browse while you're in the area. Roberta Goodall is based in the Credit Union office in Methilhill - phone 01592 714888 to make an appointment. This is a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL service available to anyone living or working in Central Fife, whether you're already experiencing financial difficulties or just worried about coping on a tight budget.
