Have you, or a friend, borrowed from a loan shark? PDF Print E-mail

What is a loan shark?

A ‘loan shark’ is anyone lending money without a licence. These unlicensed money-lenders are working illegally and often use threats and violence, charge extremely high interest, add other 'charges' to loans for no reason and take away people's bank cards as 'security'.  Loan sharks tend to be part of other criminal activities too, like gun and knife crime, counterfeiting and drug-dealing.  If you've borrowed money from a loan shark, you haven't broken the law - they have.  You can report them in confidence by calling 0300 555 2222.  For more information: http://stoploansharks.direct.gov.uk/index.html
